This scholarship is given as a loving testament to the passion and love of life embodied by Ben Paine who died July 10, 2006 while doing what he loved best; playing basketball. In a college paper, Ben wrote:
" I believe that you should never have to say I wish I did this or I could have done that…Nobody remembers the mishaps, but people definitely remember what they could have accomplished (had they tried).”
At least four scholarships of up $750 - $1000 each will be awarded: one will go to a graduating member of both the Righetti and Santa Maria High boy’s basketball team and another one will go to a graduating student athlete at large in each school. At least one scholarship will also be awarded to a graduating CVSC Player. Approximately $6000 in total awards to be given.
Qualifications to apply:
a) Must be a graduating senior
b) G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater
c) Must have participated in high school athletics
Along with your completed application you will need the following:
a) Must write an essay up to 500 words (longer is not necessarily better) on the topic “About what am I passionate and how has my passion helped me to grow and succeed.” Please include some event or story that illustrates your passion. Note that your “passion” doesn’t need to involve sports.
b) High school transcript to verify GPA
