What can I do to make sure my Player is ready to play

1.  Please have you Player on the field in uniform ready for warm ups on time.  Many teams start warm ups one hour prior or 30 minutes prior to game time

2.  Water, Water, Water…..prior, during, after and always…..Please try to avoid Soda. The best thing for your Player to drink is water. Experts all say Sports drinks are OK, but water is best. Focus on water intake 2 or 3 days before a tournament. Then during the tournament weekend make sure your Player is drinking water with every meal. This will help with hydration during the tournament.

3.  Avoid Fast Food and junk food.  Try to eat healthy meals prior and during a tournament weekend. Please avoid McDonalds and other Fast Food restaurants. If you must eat a meal on the run, please try to find a Subway, Panera Bread, Jamba Juice or some other healthy alternative. Then after the tournament let them eat what they want on the way home.

4.  Eat Breakfast! It is the most important meal of the day. Make sure your Player shows up to that 8:00 game with some food in their belly.

5.  Small meals between games. Try to avoid a big heavy meal between the games during a tournament. A heavy meal will make your Player feel sluggish and tired in the second game. However, based on the schedule, if you have 4 or 5 hours between games, he can enjoy a larger meal.

6.  Sleep is important. I know many Players get excited when they are in a hotel with the Team, and want to stay up late. But we ask that you treat tournament weekends like a school night. If we have a 8:00am game, then your Player should get to bed early. Typically whatever the bed time is during the school week is a good idea when you have an early game in the morning. If we have a late game, then you can let them stay up a little more.

7.  Monitor time in the pool. The pool and the Hot Tub will drain energy from your Player. Try to monitor how much time is spent in the pool.

8.  Rest between games. Try to avoid having your Player running around between games. Get them off their feet relaxing and taking it easy. Please try to avoid having them sitting around in the Sun. Get them indoors, or under some type of shade. The Sun will drain their energy.

The intent of this check list is not to be a downer. We all want to enjoy the tournament weekends. But we need to keep in mind that we are spending a lot of money for these tournaments, and our number one objective is to be successful on the field.
