Mbappe Becomes the Highest Paid Footballer in the World

Mbappe Becomes the Highest Paid Footballer in the World

Kylian Mbappe has officially overtaken Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s highest-paid football player. This update was released by Forbes this week, marking the first time in eight years that neither Messi nor Ronaldo holds the top spot.

Mbappe’s leap to the pinnacle came following his recent contract renewal with Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He now earns an astounding $128 million annually, which equates to nearly Rp 1.9 trillion or almost Rp 15 billion per week!

This figure doesn’t even include agent commissions, suggesting Mbappe’s total income could be even higher. Messi now finds himself in second place with earnings of $120 million, followed by Ronaldo in third with $100 million.

Rounding out the top five are PSG’s other star forward, Neymar, with $87 million, and Liverpool’s winger, Mohamed Salah, at $53 million.

Salah’s position comes after his own contract renewal with Liverpool last summer, resulting in a significant pay increase, translating to about 350,000 pounds per week.

Erling Haaland has also seen a notable rise in earnings after moving to Manchester City. He ranks sixth with $39 million, followed by Robert Lewandowski, Eden Hazard, Andres Iniesta, and Kevin De Bruyne.

Iniesta stands out as the only player from a non-European club, earning $30 million from Vissel Kobe in the Japanese League. Kevin De Bruyne completes the top ten list.

Interestingly, Haaland and Mbappe are the only two players under 30 to make the top ten, signaling a possible end to the Messi and Ronaldo era.

The substantial contracts of these young players, along with Salah’s extension and Lewandowski’s move to Barcelona, have significantly increased the total earnings of the top ten players.

Last season, the total was $585 million, but this year, it has risen by 11 percent to $652 million.
